Skin Contact White.

Unctuous, Textured, Floral.

Moscatel is a variety that comes with a bit of pretence due to its frequent and very delicious use in the sweet fortified wines of Setúbal.

That is what makes this dry, skin contact wine from Quinta Olival da Murta all the more interesting.

Quinta Olival da Murta is a family project that is currently run by its 5th generation located near the town of Cadaval in the Lisbon region. The farm is situated in a small depression in the land just west of the Serra de Montejunto. This depression creates a micro-climate that protects the farm from strong ocean winds. All together, the farm enjoys the heat of the area, without much wind and the mountain range behind gives a little altitude (100m) to the farm which also helps the grapes ripen slowly and with superb quality.

For this wine in particular, it was fermented on the skins for 6 days with native yeasts. It then had a long rest in steel before it was ready for bottling. Delish!

Why We Love This Wine!

Quinta Olival da Murta is a gorgeous spot with a sweet little microclimate formed by a little dip in the land which protects it from the strong winds that come in off the Lisbon coast. I love all their wines but there is something special about the whites and particularly this one from the grape Moscatel Graúdo. This grape is usually used for sweet wines but in this wine they've fermented it dry with a bit of skin contact. It's so floral and fruity but then it drops into this amazing grainy complexity with just a tickle of tannin. LOOOOOOVE IT!
