Primeiras Gotas - Pet Nat 2022

I am a big fan of the wines of André Lourenço, the man behind Primeiras Gotas. 

Working out of his little winery in Fundão, he creates some really cool wines which capture the essence and tradition of the region that surrounds. Not only this, but he is wildly experimental, always with something new and interesting to splash into your glass. I like to refer to him as a wine pirate as he always seems to be roaming around his local region looking for something new and exciting to produce.

His pet nat is really something special, too. Perhaps, the first pet nat that really caught my attention, it is masterfully made to express the crisp, stoney terroir it is grown in.

Made with a blend of 50% Moscatel Graúdo and 50% Fernão Pires that was grown in the cool coastal climes of Torres Vedras, which sits in the Lisbon region, this wine bursts with salty, sea-kissed charm. 

To make the wine the grapes were crushed and loaded into the tank where the juice fermented with the skins for 9 days. The wine was then pressed and left to ferment a touch longer until the correct sugar to alcohol ration was reached. At this point, the wine was bottled and it completed its fermentation under pressure within the bottle, thus forming the bubbles.
