Rosé (palhete) wine
Chewy, juicy, bright.
Yet another beautiful palhete!
Though, this time with a bit of a twist. A rather ancient twist.
This gorgeous wine, as well as the rest of the wines produced by Teresa Caeiro and João Rocha of Gerações da Talha, were all made in these incredible clay amphoras that have been in Teresa's family for generations.
In the quiet little village of Vila de Frades there is a huge tradition around these amphoras, which are none as talhas. The tradition has been in these parts since the Romans, some 2000 years ago, brought this winemaking technology to these lands. Since then, not a lot has changed. And quite remarkably so.
Four generations ago, the great-grandfather of Teresa, looking to continue this wonderful tradition, purchased the talhas and the winery. Supposedly even then, the talhas were already old. The winery has passed through the hands of the family these 100 or so years to now rest in those of Teresa who like those before her is also adamant to keep the tradition in motion.
For this wine, a mix of varieties such as Antão Vaz, Roupeiro, Perrum, Manteudo, Diagalves, Aragonez, Moreto and Alfrocheiro were used, being a mix of red and white grapes. The grapes were crushed and de-stemmed and the juice was left to soak with the skins for a while before they fermentation was initiated with native yeasts . The wine was then left to rest on the lees, what is known as the mother, for a few months. This mother sinks to the bottom and acts as a natural filter when it comes time to decant the wine and bottle it.
Ancient methods that are tried and true and still can't be beaten with all the technology of the modern world!

WHY WE LOVE THIS WINE!
This wine is stunner on a hot night. Once the sun has set and you're looking to drink something fresh but with a bit more texture than a white, this wine shines like a diamond. The texture is so soft, chewy and round with this rose flavoured and gently spiced flavour profile. It is not something that can fit neatly into the general wine categories as it is a creature of its own. You won't know what I mean until you try it!
